Atlassian Training Videos
Shaping Knowledge Through Digital Education
When companies started widely adopting Atlassian tools like JIRA, there was a real need to help teams actually use these tools effectively. I worked as an Atlassian University Trainer to help bridge this gap. My job wasn't just about teaching people which buttons to click - it was about helping teams work better together using these tools.
Creating good training content is harder than most people think. We needed to take complex technical concepts and make them clear and engaging without dumbing them down. Each course had to work for people with different learning styles and technical backgrounds. And when we moved from live training to recorded videos, we had to figure out how to maintain that human connection through a screen.
I drew from my experience in both the technical side and team leadership to create training that actually helped people. I didn't want to just record boring tutorials, so I focused on connecting features to real business problems people needed to solve.
For each recording, I carefully planned how to build concepts step by step while keeping it interesting with practical examples. Using Camtasia, I worked to create smooth transitions between explanations and demonstrations so everything flowed naturally and made sense.
As I started managing another instructor who was creating additional courses, I learned a lot about leadership. I realized that good training isn't just about the content - it's also about creating an environment where other instructors can develop their own teaching style while maintaining quality.
The courses we created became a key part of Atlassian University's on-demand training offerings. While it was great to see good completion rates and positive feedback, what really mattered was seeing teams become more confident and capable with the tools. Watching people transform how they worked after taking our courses was the most rewarding part.
Technical knowledge alone isn't enough - you need to connect with people emotionally, even through video.
Teaching something forces you to understand it more deeply yourself.
Managing other instructors taught me to balance maintaining standards with allowing personal teaching styles.
The best technical training addresses the human side of adopting new technology, not just the features.
